swimming 101 - toddler style

I wish I was reporting back that swimming lessons were a charm. Unfortunately, not so much.

Here's kind of how it went down....

He was flirting with a few girls in the ladys locker room as we were getting our suits on. Typical of him. We were both VERY excited about our first swim lesson!! He was still not sure why we are about to step in to a giant indoor bath tub...but he seemed to have an open mind so far....

With a little encouragement from mommy and a little hand holding he was willing to try it out. Keep in mind, he was in the water a TON last summer. My parents have a boat and my bf has a pool...so he is very familiar with the water. I expected him to jump right in.

This is when I thought it was going REALLY well. Boy was I in for a surprise!

Even daddy was convinced that P was gonna be the next Michael Phelps. He was splashing up a storm and for a few moments...I thought he was enjoying the pool more than he enjoys elmo.
He was a little reluctant to lay on his back, but after a little coaxing, he was kicking away.

That's about where the pictures end....because that's about where the happiness ended and my little devil emerged!

Do you see how many kids there were in our parent/tot swim class?

The point is...my child was the O N L Y one not in the pool after about the first 20 minutes. He spotted some toys on the side of the pool and thats when it was officially over. I even tried using the toys to coax him back in, but nope, he wasn't buying it. He was sitting on the side of the pool shaking his head NO and every time I reached for him he screamed. I was "that mom"...you know...the one that has the screaming child that every one is staring at. Yep, that was me.

P will have a second chance to redeem himself in front of all these mothers. We have swim class every Saturday until May. Can't wait for next week. :)

I'm with Mojito! You look awesome!! Share your secret!!

I hope P enjoys it a little more next time. I'm sure that's hard at first, especially when there are toys all around!

I'm sorry to say that we started out pretty well too. We even used McDonald's to coax him there. He hated it. He loved the toys, but the only thing he would do was jump off the side and go under. Nothing else. It was like an arm workout! Once Tom took him and after that it was over!!! He had all the moms saying, You want me to try to hold him. He was finished. We went on spring break and never went back. He is great in the pool at Gigi's house. JALC...not so much! Don't feel bad when you're singing "swimming school drop-out" like we were!

Umm yeah...NO ONE should look that good after a baby and in the dead of winter. Seriously Mando...you are smokin in that little polka dot number (b*tch) Hahahaha! I am so kidding. You know i love you! I think I may print one of these pics out and put it on my fridge so that I can see it every time I reach for some Ben and Jerry's :-)

Mandy, We're all jealous of you in that polka dot suit! You look GREAT!!
I'm sorry P didn't get much in to the whole swim thing...it takes time though, so just remember that. I have found that my children all do better with no one else around except the person giving him the lessons. Most of the lessons anyway are just "playing" in the water to get use to it. Better luck w/ next week though....You hot chick!!

I'm with Mojito. Did a baby actually come out of your body? Because it doesn't look like it!

I have to follow up on all these posts, because I am actually in the same swim class with her and she looked just as good in person as in the photos. She was by far the only mom there that could have pulled that little bathing suit off. I have a 2 year old and a 4 month old and I just wanted to die having to get into a bathing suit. Ah what you will do for your kids!!! But really I cant even believe you have had a baby and still look that great you are a very lucky woman!!

Ahhh how I love swimming so much. Don't you just find it so relaxing. Everyone should learn how to swim. If not you might want to consider taking swimming classes.
